This Time I'm Keeping It July 28, 2010 J. Rzeczycki (East Tennessee) I tried one of these in 2008 and had problems with it, so I quit using it and sold it. I then went back to Vonage for almost 2 years, but decided to give MJ another try. I was determined to save money like a lot of other people do, and so far, I'm very satisfied.
I cleaned up my PC some first. MJ installed quickly with no problems at all, and I was making calls in just a few minutes. The sound quality is better than my Vonage phone was. Some people were too loud on Vonage, and now they are not.
E-911 set up by itself, and I called 911 to ask if my name and info showed up on their screen, and it did.
I have a very good broadband connection that I pay $55 a month for, which definitely helps. My relatively clean hard drive might help too.
I'm canceling Vonage again and this time I really think it'll be permanently.
They seem to have worked the bugs out of magicJack. For the type of use I bought it for, it serves me very well. It takes a couple minutes to start up when I turn my PC on, but it's well worth the wait in my opinion. Am glad to knock $200 a year off of my phone bill. I give it 5 stars.
It blocks conference number and the sound quality is not good July 28, 2010 smjk I have been using MagicJack for awhile. Some times the sound quality is bad and the phone doesn't ring even when I know there is a phone call coming in. Without any indication from MagicJack, all of the sudden I can no longer connect to my company's conference number anymore. MagicJack blocks conference numbers now. The conference provider has to send them email to be able to connect to MagicJack. This is really ridiculous. And nowhere is it stated in MagicJack's advertisements or manuals that they block certain numbers. Needless to say, I won't use MagicJack any more.
USED MAJICJACK CANNOT BE RE- REGISTERED July 27, 2010 Mike This is our second magicjack, (the first one we bought at Staples and we love it), we are hugely disappointed in the one we bought from Amazon as we received USED equipment...........thought we were buying NEW..........you cannot re-register a USED magicjack so therefore you cannot get another phone number, you cannot get your messages, no emails...........I am very disappointed in amazon and especially the seller, Abdul Saifee......
Certain rural areas are blocked July 23, 2010 Ann Elliott I am unable to make calls to certain rural areas. After an online chat with Magic Jack's customer service and being put through an hour long attempt on their end to "remedy the problem", I was told that certain phone companies are blocking calls from Magic Jack. Supposedly Magic Jack is working on a solution but I have since discovered that Magic Jack is the one who is blocking the calls! I don't want to deal with a company that out and out lies to me and shifts the blame to other phone companies.
Better Business Bureau Gives Them Lowest Rating July 21, 2010 Marc McCutcheon (S. Portland, ME United States) CONSUMER WARNING: Be advised that the Better Business Bureau is giving Magic Jack its lowest consumer rating. They've been absolutely DELUGED with customer complaints. Mine NEVER worked from day one and they refused to refund my money even after their techs admitted the problem was on THEIR end, not mine. They also outright lied in their advertising, promising that users would be able to port over their existing numbers by the end of 2009. This did not happen. Again, no refund. The most unethical company I have EVER dealt with. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
